Thank you Mrs. Brave

Ok, so, I just went to my massage interview. It was a group interview so they just went over a few things and the people that hadn't filled out apps did. I was one of them. There were a two questions that I turned more into essay questions and I feel I really nailed them. All thanks to Mrs. Brave and her teaching Journalism class how to bs the AP test. She rules! So in a couple of days hopefully they will invite me back for a 2nd inteview and I'll get to leave Aero! xoxo

Heat Advisory

Hey kids! It's your local journalist here, reporting to you what you should maybe know since it's usually hotter down there than it is here, and we've been issued warnings to stay safe this weekend, as the heat index is expected to be around 110 degrees. These are the fact boxes that go with my story: Learn something!

Tips for staying safe in the heat:

-RELAX. Avoid strenuous activity. If it is a must, do it between 4-7 a.m.
-FIND A COOL PLACE. Stay indoors in the air conditioning or on the lowest floor of your house, out of the sunlight. Operate fans. You may also want to visit a neighbor or head to a public place like the library or the mall.
-STAY HYDRATED. Drink water. Take in more fluids than you are losing. Avoid alcohol and caffeine.
-PROTECT YOUR BODY. Wear lightweight, light-colored clothing to deflect the sun's heat. Wear sunglasses and waterproof sunscreen with an spf of 30 or more. Reapply as needed. Wear shoes outside to avoid painful burns on feet.
-ADJUST EATING HABITS. Eat smaller meals more often throughout the day.
-MONITOR CHILDREN, THE SICK AND THE ELDERLY. These groups are the most vulnerable. Be sure to check on elderly neighbors, especially those without air conditioning. Regularly monitor those with high blood pressure or heart disease. Make sure kids take play breaks to cool down and drink water or sports drinks (to replenish electrolytes). Pedialyte is also effective in infants and small children.
-COOL DOWN SLOWLY. If you do become overheated, use cold compresses around your neck and wrists to cool off. A cold shower could send your body into shock.
-BRING PETS INDOORS. If they must stay outside, may sure they have a supply of cool water at all times.
-NEVER LEAVE A PET OR A CHILD UNATTENDED IN A VEHICLE

Danger signs:

-Dry mouth
-No tears
-Sunken eyes
-Reduction in urination, dark-colored urine
-Skin that stays compressed when pinched
-Light-headedness, dizziness
-Thirst
(More advanced signs)
-Rapid or weak pulse (more than 100 at rest)
-Cold hands and feet
-Rapid breathing
-Blue lips
-Confusion
-Lethargy

Obsession, By Rachelowe

Dude you have an obsession. No, I don't want to stand outside the game and wait for HOT PROFESSIONAL CARDINALS players to come outside so I can see them UP CLOSE and get AN AUTOGRAPH. If you couldn't sense the sarcasm, I'd be glad to.

I guess I need to bring something that can sign then eh? hmmmm...... They can't touch my hat. I love wearing it too much. Maybe my old hat!! hmmm

Remember when we were "froot loop" and "tutti frutti" and the like?

Yeah well, I like what u have there already. Maybe that kind of poem doesn't need closure, because it seems like you don't have closure to speak of.

You could be becoming your mother, as so many people speak about, which technically is maturing, as your mom is a grown lady. Avoiding arguments can't last forever though. Small arguments yes, but if something you need to discuss yet you know you will disagree on comes up- it's probably worth discussing, for the health of the relationship.

If fighting with Mike isn't what makes you want to buy a plane ticket home, I'm guessing a part of you misses it, because you didn't address that specifically. You know like I said earlier- I wanted to get away for awhile, and the time is coming where I am starting to want to come back. Not until afer I graduate of course, but you get the point. Were you wanting to get away forever and start a new life in Texas?

I hope wherever you end up you feel happy about it. I think maybe the more you mature you might find that you get bored with places less. People gotta slow down and end up somewhere someday. Maybe you're not ready for that yet, but you could be feeling it- I donno I only speculate and can be more than wrong on occasion.

There are very few boys out there that want not much more than what you just said, I too have found out. A special certain few tend to be like that at first though, or I hold out hope that I find one. I know you said Mike was really special and that's why you decided not to leave Texas- are you still feeling that way? See anything for the future?

I'm just an emotional fruit basket today!

I try writing and I get a couple of things out but then I don't like anything else. Usually I can only write dark things. Earlier I wrote this but I can't finish it. Its hard to ever finish anything I write...
Sucking the passon from my lips
Blank stares and cold hands help you forget everything I am
Cut into the hole where your black heart lies
Torture me with neglect and useless necessary things
Quilting the same pattern from our past into our future
Tomorrow will be the same charade

Things with Mike are good but there are some things that bother me. I hate the way guys get sucked into the tv or computer(useless necessary things). I think I watch too many movies and expect the fate/destiny/romance that hollywood propaganda portrays. Guys and girls don't think alike. Guys are more materialistic with cars and other expensive toys to out do each other and girls want some kind of head over heels sweep me off my feet romance. I mean I would rather sit and play the "question game" then watch tv.

I've never been the one to avoid arguements but I do now. I can't stand to fight or argue or anything b/c I know that when we get in our first real big fight my ass is just going to pack up and leave. There have been so many times already when I was about to buy a plane ticket home. Not from fighting with Mike though. I don't know if I'm growing up/maturing or just avoiding conflict. I mean my mom is a laid back lady and nothing bothers her...at least she doesn't show it. So am I just growing into that and nothing is wrong with me or am I avoiding conflict?

I think thats it for now...I have a pounding stress headache after all that. xoxo

Response to Diane

Wow that wasn't there when I started my last post. But I'm glad it is now, because it gives me something more to think about and write.

I wish I was a kid again too. Especially after reading that. It hits me everytime I think about what happens after graduation. I freak out and tell myself and everyone around me that there is no way I'm moving away from home right after. Eventually, yeah probably, but not right after. I don't have the money----- or the security I found I was missing when I moved here to Rock Island.

It's me- after slowly getting away after two years that can still admit that no matter what anybody has to say about a medium- semi-small town- I still want to end up in one. If not Alton, then someplace like it. I wanted to get away- experience new things- and I'm happier than ever that I did, or else a lot of opportunities would have passed me by and I'd still be unhappy as ever wishing I was in a different place. But I didn't mean FOREVER... not yet anyways.

When I was home last weekend, I saw Chelsea. It was nice to see her and all... she sat down with me and Rachelowe and started talking to us. Not surprisingly the first things she had to say were rumors about people I used to know. I turned away a few times, trying to seem quasi-interested but not being able to help my thoughts about how juvenile this situation was in the first place. Needless to say I used to think Chelsea was super cool, when I was little. And I still think back and remember the fun we used to have, but then I also think about where I am today, and where she is. There are pluses and minuses of course.

She still hangs out with all her friends from high school. Or a good amount of them. I still talk to many of mine, but I've also gained friends at SIUE and at EIU, and I like to think my range of friends keeps me well balanced. I got opportunities living at college that she never will. I experienced dorm life, bitchy roommates, a sorority (which I actually always thought woulda been more her route than mine).... and lots more. So I'm happy about where I've come.

There always comes a point in my life where I wish I could go back to being 5. I was fit, happy all the time (ask my dad even), tomboyish, adventurous, athletic and outdoorsy. I was best friends with my brother, and life was great.

In high school I thought life was great too, and when graduation neared, I again, wished I was 5.

Now, I wish I was 5. It's a repeat process for me.

Does your boyfriend now not act like that around you? I haven't been dating a whole lot lately but I still feel like a 5 year old when a guy I like shows some reciprocation. I think that's why I latched onto Stephen. He was a friend, a safely-taken friend I could act like I was five around and have fun with without any confusion about getting serious or notions about what it meant. But then again there was Matt, and I treated him the same way. And I don't think it was quite the friendly game it was with Stephen. But it still felt good, because he's a lot like me. And it still feels good. I have a crush haha, again. (It was what I was talking about earlier.)

But anyway Diane. I loved reading your post- whenever you and me seem like opposite entities I get hit with something like this and it reminds me of some of the reasons we get along. The rain thing- and Dave Matthews... I admire the way you compared the streaky windows to a Monet painting. I wish you were home to go to the art museum with me this summer. I never had a favorite obsession like you do with your "Starry Night" but I do feel something of an overwhelming happiness and peace around art because for some reason I am obsessed with texture and color, which is why although his paintings are essentially paint splatters, I see a lot in Jackson Pollock's stuff.

Dude I have a suggestion if you ever get bored. I don't know if you've tried it but I think you should write a story about what you just posted on. If you hate the idea of writing then I understand, but I think it could be really interesting and it makes you feel better about how u feel.

This post wanders. I do that a lot, sorry...

Read Me?

I seriously hope you guys read these, because I realize I write the most- an awful damn lot. They will probably become more scarce, but still somewhat steady- when I get back into the groove of my life... in 9 days.

I guess sometimes I need to write them just so that I am doing something. Thomas is on vacation, so our daily back and forth of emails that has become so routine this summer is at a temporary halt. And at a great time too! I actually have something somewhat interesting to talk about. I don't want to otherwise plaster this business up on the blog.

So- a record 5 stories at once and I'm getting sources to call me back one by one, slowly but surely. As long as they're done by next friday ;)

This weekend I actually have plans in the QC. Friday, Darla (another intern) and I are going to see Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, and then Saturday we are going to a Swing baseball game (Cards' minor league). I'm sick of waiting for Aaron (DEN, also interning here) to do something, especially now since he's over in Moline doing sports- we have different schedules. So we'll have to see how things work out. Either way- I am going to the movie and the game. I'd go by myself if I had to, but Darla doesn't have anyone to hang out with because her husband is going out of town. She's only a year older than me. I still think it sounds wierd to say married.

So Emily- I know you've been dating but I've never heard any details and would like to if you want to share.

Diane- How's your man treating you, and how's the life of a massage therapist? Are u good to go in every state since you passed that test?

Rachelowe- GET EXCITED FOR Cardinal's baseball!

I'm Laura Griffith, signing off.
And go fuck yourself San Diego.

Passionless

Hey guys. Sorry I have to rant a little.

Lately things around me are passionless. I hate it. I hate not experiencing fun/exciting/breath taking things. I get bored so easy. Its weird. I keep thinking back to the things that I truly treasure...
*having someone look at me like I'm the only one in the world
*sitting in my car and watching the rain fall on the window b/c it gets smeary and reminds me of a van gogh painting
*the best date ever was with Justin Mathenia. We went to a movie/dinner and that was ordianary but after that he took me under the bridge (one of his favorite spots) and we threw rocks in the river. The stars were out and I said how I wanted to be under a sky full of stars and he said "if you want the stars I'll give you the stars." Then he played Ryan Adams and took me by the hand and slow danced in the middle of the road. It was like something from a movie.
*having tickle fights/playing "i got you last"
*laying on someone listening to their heart beat.

Its like the older we get the less we are child like at heart! I hate it. I want to play in the rain or scrap my knee and and think its the worst thing in the world when really its not. I don't want any responsibilites except for picking up my toys and telling my mom I'm going over to play at a friends house. I want to be oblivious to everything bad that is going on and think that everyone gets along.

Ok well I think I've been mushy too much to too many people. Sorry I was listening to DMB Under the Table and Dreaming and that cd just does something to me. I hate being such a girl sometimes. xoxo

I love stealing these to fill my waiting time....

Gay Park Results

Ok so I went trolling for blowjobs with Brian yesterday in a Credit Island Park in Davenport. It was freaky. First we went on a walk-thru with the police chief and saw a stump with a pillow slouched over it. The stump was surrounded by tons of condom wrappers, liquor bottles and Ky-jelly individual packets.

After the chief left, we drove around for about an hour and a half trying to get some of them to follow us. We succeeded in luring in 2 out of about 6. A tan truck, and a red truck. Apparently there is a signal of sorts to let them know you want to get with them. Brian says its two taps on the brake, I noticed a wierd pattern of all of them having their lights on in broad daylight. They were also all middle-aged men in their cars alone, behind tinted windows. Coincidence? Hmmm probably not.

So there are tons of turnarounds where we stopped a few times to see if anyone would follow us. When the tan truck guy did first, it frightened me a little. I mean- if these guys are picking up strange gay men in the park (as the case happens to be- but even if it were strange persons in general)- they might have a gun or knife for protection I'd think. Dude shutoff his truck, and me and Brian soon thereafter drove away. Tan truck dude gave up on us, but still everytime he drove by, at least 5 times more, he stared hardcore like he, and I quote Brian on this one "wanted to use Brian's skull as a humping post."

Red truck guy wasn't so easy to get rid of. He followed us at least 7 times. Finally, we stopped to see if he'd do it again, and it looked like he was gone. Suddenly he was behind us- a little far back but parked behind us nevertheless. Freaky! So we decided to pull up next to him and talk.

Dude had this elaborate story about birdwatching as his alibi. First- nobody birdwatches from the road and only the road- while parking behind other people. Second- he didn't need his lights on- which he turned on and off repeatedly. Third- Dude shows us his camera like he has to persuade us to believe him. It wasn't anywhere near big enough unless he likes his pics to look like specs. Also- when Brian told him we were reporters investigating strange activity in the back loop- dude didn't bother to ask what activity that was. He probably already knew! Why would he ask?

We got out. And the story will be in the Leader. I'm going to copy and paste it into my xanga because ppl without subscriptions won't be able to read it.

how bout, no.
I'm done with guys from work forever. Ha.

Gay Park

I get to help out tomorrow on my first investigative reporting assignment. Today, Brian (crime reporter) was crusing along in this park known as the place where dead bodies wash up, people get in fights, and apparently middle aged gay men hang out to dearch for free blowjobs. Today he had one of the men follow him to the gas station, which was kind of alarming. Another man just looked at him and licked his lips. He is pretty good looking, but that's kind of freaky when you look at the particulars of the situation. He said he's been to plenty of gay bars (which is hilarious bc most men are homophobes) but he's been with his gf- and when men hit on him she grabs him and starts making out with him. Ha. But speaking of the park- No one has been arrested or in trouble down there, but he is going to check it out some more. Tomorrow, I, as an intern, get to pose as his ladyfriend/bodyguard and we are going to figure out if they try and hit on him when he's with a girl. He's like bait in this experiment and I'm the variable. I can't wait to see what creepy bitches are down there. YAY! Something other than myspace to keep me busy during the day!
Also, I feel kind of bad because I'm broke as a joke and so he bought me lunch at this new place downtown so we could discuss the story. He's a cool guy.

Personality Test

INFJ - the counselor
You scored 18% I to E, 15% N to S, 19% F to T, and 47% J to P!

Your type is best summed up by the word "counselor", which belongs to
the larger group of idealists. Only 2% of the population share your
type. You are so empathic that you often know what others need before
they know themselves. You are a complex person who can deal with
complicated issues and people, almost prefer to, as you love problem
solving. You can be something of an idealist or perfectionist, and
should try to take yourself a little less seriously.
You are a
supportive and insightful romantic partner, encouraging your mate to
have dreams and work hard to make those dreams come true. Because you
are so creative, you have a wealth of ideas to help them toward those
goals. You need harmony so much that you are driven to resolve conflict
quickly, as long as the terms don't violate your ethics. You feel the
most appreciated when your partner admires your creativity, trusts your
inspirations, and respects your values. It is also vitally important
that your partner be open and emotionally available - in other words,
that they be willing to share themselves completely.

Eventful Weekend

Finally! I haven't had one all summer, not really anyways. Here's how it went:

Friday
Came home around 9:30, talked to parents, looked at why their Internet might be so slow (I don't know), chatted for awhile and took a shower. I couldn't figure out the AC in the van so I sweated my ass off the entire 4 hours home. Other than that it was a pleasant ride. I called Eric, but my phone rang once and I guess he hung up, so I watched Haunted Places on the travel channel with daddy till I fell asleep.

Saturday
Woke up around 10 and got ready to go to spaghetti at Grandma's with mom. There were tons of people there. When it was over around noon, mom and I changed and went swimming at Becky's. Got a little bit of sun, and the water was perfect! Had to go home after awhile and get ready for church. When we got to church it was the most boring preist ever and he spoke for as long as he possibly could- so we cut out after communion. After that my mom went to Becky's and my dad and I went to the Jersey County Fair. I checked out the 4-H stuff, we got a corn dog, and we watched a mechanical bull that looked pretty interesting. We headed to the grandstand and saw antique tractors, mini-rods and the smoke blowers- I don't know what they're called that's what my dad calls them. We had to leave once the hotrods got going because even with earplugs that noise is unbearable. Some little kid down the way left his ear plugs off! I was amazed! Around 9:30 we went to Aungt Becky's and ate the rest of out ribbons fries- yay greasy fair food- and visited until 10. I called Emily and Megan said the bachelorette party was about to leave. [NOTE: Emily had to throw her brother Chris' fiancee a last minute bachelorette thing. We played it by ear.] We went to Tony's and after I brought up the idea of a drag show down at Bubby and Sissy's, Emily remembered Boxers and Briefs in Centerville. So around midnight or later we packed up all our ppl: Me, Em, Megan, Sarah (bachelorette) and Rachelowe- and headed to the strip club. There, some interesting things happened. Sarah said it wasn't really her thing but she was glad she could say she came, but then you could tell as the night progressed she was getting really into it. This one stripper gave her a free stage lapdance, then later Emily paid for a firefighter lapdance from probably the sexiest stripper ever. We gave her some more money to put up in his orange thong. All night Rachelowe kep saying this one guy looked familiar... then when he came over to the table she asked him if he went to SIUE and his face turned red. Then I guess to relieve his anxiety that apparently he hadn't been there long and already somone from school recognized him... he gave us free lapdances and tried to make funny conversation with us. It made me more at ease and I finally let a stipper touch me. I didn't say he could lick my ear, but it happened anyway and it wasn't so bad ;). It was hilarious though, he was grindin' on Emily and he was like, "so, what's your major?" and we all busted up laughing as he moved his way aroud the table. Dude had some nice muscles, tho I usually don't go for that. It was kinda ironic tho. Then he made mention of English 102 papers and I speculated that he might be somewhere around James' age, which was somewhat alarming. But then I guess not, cuz it's possible he was older and also 19 isn't THAT much younger.... We made it home around 4:15. (or I did after I dropped Rachelowe off)

Sunday
I slept till 1 p.m. then Ashley came back to get her car, which had been parked at my house all weekend while she visited her chiropractor guy in STL. I visited with her before she left, and then my mom dyed my hair. We put half up in a pony tail on the top of my head so the top layer of my hair is my original color but the bottom layer is brown-black. I like it. I need to get it layered more soon so you can see it. I also need a trim. After that I lounged around all day- had chicken and veggie kabobs for my homecooked meal of the weekend. Watched part of Harold and Kumar go to White Castle- which I thought was not much raunchier than Dude Where's My Car, and def. not as raunchy as any of the Scary Movies. Frankly, I kinda liked it. Then I drove back, and got here around 10:15. Coulda used better sleep though. Better luck tonight.

All in all this weekend kicked ass. Yay! 2 more weeks!

P.S. I signed Matt Dorner's wall on facebook and he messaged me that I should get ahold of him when I come into town because we should hang out. Ha! I gotta tell you that would be quite interesting. I'm looking into it... Remember when I had a fatty crush on him!? I know you do....
