Awkwardness
So. Me and Aaron are pretty much here alone. Once a week or so we go eat dinner together. Never at a fast food place, always something a little nicer, yet still not fancy.
EVERY damn time, the restaurant people treat us as if we were together. I didn't mind at first, but it's becoming just wierd. It almost makes me paranoid. Can they tell I used to have a crush on him? I realize I still get a little giggly aroung him and laugh at everything he says. I'm just like that.
And I know it's "customary" to hand the check to the guy but it's a pain in the ass having to pay him. I feel bad even, that they think he is going to pay for stuff.
And we went to a co-worker's BBQ last weekend and he, Todd, was introducing everyone from the paper to his friends. And one of the interns brought her husband. And there was hesitation is his voice when he introduced up... "I donno if Aaron and Laura are the same way..." And to save myself from feeling bad if Aaron were to feel adverse to this idea, I immediately called out" no, we're not" then I let out an uneasy giggle. I think I offended him a little. "Oh thanks!" he said and he gave me a little grin.
And then one night came the convo about me having made out with all the sports guys... except him. And we were a little drunky that night. And he seemed offended that I hadn't and he made a comment on how he "didn't get to." Or something. But he never tried. Not to say if he had we would have but look my track recond's not good. haha...

Yo ho and really bad eggs
Sorry I watched Pirates of the Carribean the other night.
Anyways good story Diane, gross, but interesting nonetheless. Talk about blue balls haha. Oh- and your xanga is DiDeeStar. You must have signed up for it to sign my guestbook, which you did. If you ever wanted it you just hit up xanga.com with dideestar and a password.
This dude has been trying to talk to me on AIM. He said he saw me on STLPunk and I looked "kewl" which is a sign right there it's a bad deal. Why are all the people who think I look cool major freaks? It's not like that in real life!!! WTF!? Anyways I have declined to talk to him. I ignore and hope he goes away, which I realize is kinda bitchy but this guy doesn't know me so what the hey.
I've been talking to some friends from school I haven't seen in awhile which is kind of interesting. I need to call Stephen, he's one person I wish you guys would have met, although I don't know if you would have liked him as much as I did. The man was like my second half. The problem is lately I've had this wierd aversion to the phone. Matt called me the other day- and I loved Matt to death!- and I didn't even answer the phone. I was in the middle of a movie, for starters, but still! I don't know what's wrong with me! I waited till he IMed me then I responded later. Maybe because I don't know how much Matt and I would have to talk about. But Stephen is totally different! Anyway I can't talk much til after nine because I had to upgrade my plan for my phone to work in RI and I have less minutes now. I did talk to April the other day and that was nice. I think I'm gonna have to break down and call Stephen tonight. Actually I don't know why I feel so bad because I've gotten only texts and IMs from him- which I have always replied to! I miss him. Sometimes I feel weird because I realize the way I talk about him makes me sound like I was in love with him, but I loved him totally not in a dating way. And it was great because he has a gf he was crazy about, so it was mutual. And she is sweet too.
I'm getting ready to go out to the Henry County Fair this afternoon once again. It's like an hour away, so I get to drive which I love, and for some reason I LOVE COUNTY FAIRS. It must be the Jerseyvillian in me. I'd rather go to the Jersey County Fair than the Alton Expo any day, regardless of its hickness. I'm gonna get me a fat candy apple covered in chocolate and sprinkles. I've been thinking about it ever since I was out there two days ago. I covered the pig costume contest last time, and I even got to take a picture that was published! I want to be able to take photos better. So during the school year I'm putting my digital to use to try and take some decent photos. News-type or feature photos, not pose and grin ones. Those I save for the throwaways at crazy parties. Also I am going to insist that I take a lot of Verge photos, but I need to get better or I'll stink up my publication.
Anyway today I'm previewing a wildlife enthusiasts show at the fair. It includes classes like taxidermy (mounted animals is what they call it but that's what it is), homemade wildlife (deer jerky and the such) and wildlife photography. It's new. And I get to see it before the entries are judged and before anyone else does. Yay me. And I get to take a photo.
Thomas I was surprised to not see an entry by you today! Oh wait didn't you say you have a training session? Let us know how that went hehe.
OMY GOSH Jen found a pic on Collegehumor.com that looks EXACTLY, not simlar, EXACTLY like Megan. I wonder.... I mean it's totally possible she did go to a huge school although I'm not sure that matters. Let me see if I can find the link. I sent it to Emily. Someone should show it to Megan and ask her, seriously. Dammit I can't find the link. Go to collegehumor.com and browse in the "random" section and it was posted by a girl. I have the link saved at home and I will get it. Let me know what you guys find out. Kbye.

I have things to write about!
Such a entertaining story...
The other night at Mike's soccer game he got kneed in the groin. (I never knew soccer players didn't wear cups.) Anyway...it swelled up huge and had to leave the soccer game and go to the ER. They did an ultrasound of his balls!!! Haha. Anyway...they are still pretty big and his whole nutsack is black/purple! Isn't that gross?!? The Dr. said hes lucky his nutsack didn't rupture. Thats how bad it is.
My crazy dream...
Ok, so, last night I had a dream that I was in some college and partying with Janna Herndon! Isn't that nuts! I never hung out with her and I don't even know when the last time I saw her was. Plus, shes not a partier. I thought that was kind of strange.
Laura-I have one of those? I don't even remember. Crazyness. I don't even know how to get to it now.
I'll write more later. Bye for now.

Daily Update
Hey kids!
I'm back with "what's new with me." I'm working on two stories presently, but I am waiting to hear back from some sources. I decided to use my time wisely and update the blog.
----------
Thomas, that really sucks about your game. I wish I could have played this year. Maybe next year! Who knows where I'll be (not WHERE, because I really can't afford to live away whilst paying back about $20,000 in loans, but more or less what I'll be doing and where in the area.)
----------
I get home at the end of July, which is growing ever closer and I am getting excited. After this week- which is flying by, I have 5 weeks left. And this is getting repetitive but after the weekend of July 2 I have stuff to do so next week should fly by too. And then it's officially half over. I can't wait until I actually get a vacation! I don't mind being away, and I don't mind getting clips and doing what it is I like to do- but I got thrown into that at school right away when I wasn't used to it, and I was ready for a break. I don't mind it up here, but everytime I think about what I COULD be doing- laying out at my aunt's pool and doing useless things with my dad for fun. I could have gone to to Ozarks... my parents wanted to go to New York for vacation this year. We weren't going to the city, I'd save that for my friends... but we were going to see Niagara falls and do goofy tourist stuff. The two weeks that I have for summer I have so much stuff I want to do it isn't even funny. And the sad part is, part of the time I'd like to stay in and relax, but I guess that's really what I do everynight now after my day is through.
I want to:
*go to the zoo
*hit up the art museum
*go to Beaver Dam and paddle boat
*swim at Becky's
*hike/picnic at Pere Marquette which we stopped doing
*go to a Cardinals game
*shop a little bit
*eat out at Blueberry Hill in the loop, maybe stop into Fitz for dessert...
There are several other things on my list. I am just daydreaming right now.
I've never even been to the Belle! But I guess that's not saying much anyway from what I've heard.
--------------
I'm going to find a strange survey and fill it out. Everytime I think enough time has passed that my answers would be different, but... well we'll just see if it's true.
To be continued....

ARGH people!
Jen- Nice to see you've come back to us. That concert is still 3 hours away. So I probably won't be able to go.
Thomas- I won't be home for Emily's party because my best friend from school's grad/b-day party is July 2nd and it is way closer to here. Plus I already promised when we left school. So I'll be home either July 30 until I leave again for Chucktown, or I might come home one more weekend, that it yet to be known. If so it would be July 8 or July 15.
I'm trying to write a damn story on straight-edgers and they're all being bitches to me. They don't want "the media to portray them as bad" or "make an already underground culture worse." I'll tell you what, if they don't cooperate I will write the story with what I have from people who WILL help. And IT WILL make them look bad because I will not hesitate to include that more than just a few responded with rude e-mails and refused comment. That looks like they've got something to hide! I just don't get it. How can a group of people who don't drink/smoke/have sex before marriage be so bad that people hate them? Unless they do something that otherwise makes them look bad AKA whatever they're trying to hide. They act like they're so much better (not all of them trust me, just about half of the ones I've talked to if not more). From what I know about the lifestyle itself, there shouldn't be anything to hide, and I'd want more people to know what we do. And Jon, I donno if you read this, but no offense to your brother. Anyway. They'll be sorry! Because I won't be trying to make them look bad, they will be doing it themselves. I am infuriated and confused, and quite aghast that they freaking YELLED at me in their e-mails! "YOU MAINSTREAMERS CAN NEVER UNDERSTAND!!!" Fuck that.
P.S. I'm covering a pig costume contest today at Henry County Fair haha.

Mondays bite ass!
I really do hate mondays. They suck! Everyone is so rude and demanding at the same time. Bastards. But that is what I get for helping the public, blah! Anywho, my office is somewhat back to normal, we all got new desks and mini cubes, I feel like I'm truly in office space now! But I like the mini cubes cuz now I can hang lots of pix,,,yay!

Well I better get on my yard is almost 6:30 now. I might write more l8er tonight. Bye

What You Really Think Of Your Friends |
April is your soulmate. |
| You truly love Megan J. |
| You consider Rachelowe your true friend. |
| You know that Thomas is always thinking of you. |
| You'll remember Ashley for the rest of your life. |
| You secretly think Emily is creative, charming, and a bit too dramatic at times. |
| You secretly think that Cory is colorful, impulsive, and a total risk taker. |
| You secretly think that Renick is loyal and trustworthy to you. And that Renick changes lovers faster than underwear. |
| You secretly think Diane is shy and nonconfrontational. And that Diane has a hidden internet romance. |
First of all....
This stuff is mainly true with a few exceptions. Emily is NOT the dramatic one. And Diane is not very shy. Other than that! (wow the Renick one, right on target)
Sorry Thomas
I couldn't help myself
| You Think Michael Jackson Is Innocent |
![]() Q: Have you seen the new Michael Jackson candy bar? A: It's white chocolate with no nuts.... (but kids like it) |
Diane's survey by Laura
Name: Laura
Hometown: Godfrey
Birthplace: Alton
Height: 5'6
First time you ever drank?: Ha there's a pic of me with a beer when I was under one year of age. I don't think I DRANK then though... hehe
Type of Drunk you are: beer- goofy, outgoing, hyper... hard alcohol- quiet, reserved, in another world tired
Ever been in an actual fight?: no
Favorite drink/shot?: drink- Malibu and Coke, shot- Lemondrop
Favorite beer (if applicable)?: Morgan Street's wheat ale
Favorite liquor?: none preferably but rum if I must choose
More of a bar or club person? depends on who I'm with and how I feel at that particular moment. P.S. We all need to go to Wild Country this August for dancing and cheap booze. I forget which night they have a special though.
Alcohol you absolutely despise?: Tequila. I've only ever had half a shot- but I threw it all up later. Really I blame the party weenies and the spinning room.
Ever bought a stranger a drink?: um. no.

Do you forget a lot of what happens during a night of hard drinking?: Nope, I can only remember one time that I forgot I called some people, that's all.
Been drunk around your parents?: I still don't like to be, but I'll drink yes.
Hometown: Godfrey

First time you ever drank?: Ha there's a pic of me with a beer when I was under one year of age. I don't think I DRANK then though... hehe

Favorite beer (if applicable)?: Morgan Street's wheat ale

More of a bar or club person? depends on who I'm with and how I feel at that particular moment. P.S. We all need to go to Wild Country this August for dancing and cheap booze. I forget which night they have a special though.
Alcohol you absolutely despise?: Tequila. I've only ever had half a shot- but I threw it all up later. Really I blame the party weenies and the spinning room.
Ever bought a stranger a drink?: um. no.
Been thrown out of a bar/club?: Sure haven't

Fear and Loathing....
An exerpt from my xanga
" Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas is beginning to make me loathe it. And I'm only on the 3rd chapter. Everyone seems to love it, so I borrowed it from my brother and am currently trying to figure out what's so goddam exciting about it. I admit, the imagery is priceless, but it also sounds like a bunch of crazy rambling that's taking me no where. Which I know is the point, because they're on drugs. But they seem extremely immature and retarded to me. This book, and the movie Requiem For a Dream, are two sources that will stop me from ever feeling the need to inhale ether, to drop acid or to pump myself with uppers all afternoon. "
I think Emily can back me up on the Requiem for a Dream. I guarantee you could drop the percentage of kids who use drugs if you used that movie in health classes by 5th grade. Maybe again in 8th grade, for those who didn't understand it then. But we gotta catch them before they have already tried it.
Anyway I'm at work. I'm about to start an article on straight edge kids. Inspired by various articles and Jon Lasinski's obsession with hardcore. Normally within the hard core music culture, straight edgers do not smoke, drink or fornicate before marriage. Kinda the opposite of Fear and Loathing. Better get on that.
P.S. I brought Soup at Hand for lunch today. I tried the tomato soup crap and HATED IT! This is chicken and stars. Can you feel the anticipation building??

Sunday prime time
Today is Sunday, I'm just lying around. I finished the DaVinci Code. I'm gonna send it home with my parents to give to your mom Diane. I feel horrible I've had it do long. I also have that Daddy's Girl book I should be starting. Also sad. I will understand if your mom wants it back ASAP.
Emily, woman- I know you like older men but to a certain extent you should probably realize that those guys are closer to the age where they will want to settle down and get married and stuff. Kick it with some younger party animals first if that's what you want. And don't go back to Chuck just because he's in love with you. If you're not sure, then it is obviously bothering you, but I think your first instinct of becoming single in that case was probably for the best, because giving up on your chances for law school if you think long distance sucks (and you would know) is definitely not worth it it sounds like.
All that stuff sounds like it would be really good on your resume. I'm proud of ya girl! Way to go.
I met this guy that the Argus, Brian, and he is simply, amazing. Amazing-ly strange that is. On first sight, he's pretty hot and hilariously funny. But he has a gf, so don't get me wrong, that's not why he's amazing. He's 24. In high school he wrote a story on the top 10 bars for minors, which was an investigative report on the bars that are easiest to get into, with or without a fake. He uncovered some shit and almost caused several lawsuits. And that story is the reason the Argus hired him. Before he even graduated college he knew he already had a job at the Argus.
He has all these other ideas, like putting himself out on the streets and living like a bum for a week, to give people an insider's look on hobo life. Another one was checking into a bad neighborhood apartment complex for a month, having the paper pay only rent, and report on what living conditions and lifestyle is like for these people. Participatory journalism. The paper won't exactly let him do all that, so he's thinking about freelancing some of his stuff to magazines. And he's 24. He'a crazy to boot, he used to do extremem skating (board and blade) and has probably almost killed himself 30 times or so. He's a rush to hang out with, and I couldn't believe until the other night that journalism could get my adrenaline going so much. Maybe it's more him and his fast paced stories and shit, but the guy seems to have it all together where he needs it. He went to school to be a cop or something then he changed his major and so now he covers all the hard crime stuff. Interesting huh? He also understands how it is to be young, and is a big help when we interns want to do something a little more than the normal assignments we get on a whim.
Ok my rant is finished. Nice Rachelowe.

Strange Weekend
Well, I actually did it, I broke up with Chuck on Friday, but last night he thought we were back together again. I told him I would just date him, but that isn't good enough, which is understandable. I just don't know what I do to guys..... He totally wanted to marry me and have kids. Last night he told me that he doesn't even look at other girls, which i told him that everyone does 'look' but he swore up and down that he doesn't. I'm not ready for a relationship like that, with the whole marriage/kids thing. I'm pry gonna be moving in two years anyways, well not moving, but going away to school. I'm really interested in Chicago or New York, which are both too far away, I think, to try to keep a long distance relationship.
I feel really bad for chuck, but what was I suppose to do, I'm not that 'in love' with him, or at least I don't think I am. We'll see what happens in the next couple of days without him in my life.
He told me that two years is a long time away and things could change, I think he was saying this in hopes that I would change my mind and not go anywhere for school. But I'm not changing my mind though, DEA has been what I have wanted to do since after my first semester at SIUE. If law school is one of my only chances then I'm gonna take it, even if it means going to school a thousand miles away.
Oh yea~ Good update on getting in to law school. I talked to my criminal justice club advisor and he said he would sign my papers to send in to be admitted to the Criminal Justice Club Honor Society, Alpha Phi Sigma to be exact. Then I am joining the psychology club and I have the grades to be admitted to their Honor Society which is Psi Chi. So I hope that looks really good on my applications.
Well I'm gonna go tanning and get ready cuz I am going shopping with steve. I'm not going to buy anything, I'm not going to buy anything... must remain strong.... I am poor, I'm not going to buy anything.......................

So tired.....
Rachelowe~ I'm sorry that you feel that way about not being 21, but i totally understand how you feel. Steve was 21 when i was only 17. But we all know that story.
Oh, and Law School, well i don't want to be a lawyer persay, but i really want to be a DEA agent. And it is extremely hard to get into any federal job like that. They normally don't take students straight out of college, they perfer you work in the work force for 3 years, or get a masters, or Law degree. Well, I really don't want a masters in CJ or Psych, because if I don't get into the DEA I don't know what I would do with those degrees. But with a law degree I can do a bunch of stuff that pays good, and if I do get into the DEA I want to work my 20 years then retire and then maybe start a law practice for the hell of it. Bout' damn time I got my life straight for a change, nice to know where you are going to be at in the next 10 yrs or so.
So here are some schools I'm looking at: (in no particular order)
1) New York Law School
2) Northern Illinois University
3) New York University
4) Loyola University Chicago
5) Southern Illinois University Carbondale
6) University of Chicago
7) University of Illinois- Urbana
8) University of Missouri- Columbia

Thanks for the Imput
I think you guys were all going in the right direction about the dream, and I'm here to say I've mixed your ideas with what I think is going to settle my mind on the whole issue.

I especially liked Thomas' soccer ball/heart analogy, and its totally true. And I also think it may have something to do with the fact that at the time, he was the sports editor. If you guys look at the pics in the DEN folder on my Webshots (see link on side of page) you will notice that there is a giant pair of underwear with a padlock on the crotch that April and I made for the girl who took over the campus beat when I took Verge and April graduated. It's none other than the DEN chastity belt. It has tiny little sports stickers all over it, because the reasons the belt was made are the 3 editors that have spanned the time since I got to Eastern- two of whom I've made out with (same as April) and a third which actually lives right above me at Augustana and is currently sitting 3 desks over at the Argus. His name is Aaron. People have speculated that I might complete the list, but last night we were pretty drunk and although flirty, I think we both know it's in our best interests not to. ANYWAY- one of the stickers most frequently used on the "belt" was a soccer ball.

The mixture of Chelsea and Ashley I think stems from a part of me that wishes I was still a kid b/c kids don't do that kind of shit or deal with that crap (Chelsea) and another part of me that wants to not worry and just have harmless fun (Ashley). Plus Ashley always called him a fuckhead and I know he thought she was flirting with him. I told her to stop b/c he liked it, but that's how she is.
#3-
Sometimes I think it would be better if I got to yell at him. I just want to tell him he didn't have to lie, and the fact that he did, after I told him I really liked him, makes me angry. I never got my chance. :( I think it would be in bad taste to do it when I return to school, but April seems to think it is still relevant. I can almost guarantee a situation will arise where it is relevant and the yelling will commence. Until then...
---
Emily- Wow this guy is really serious! That's cool though that he'e coming to your BBQ, I couldn't even get Ryan to come to New Year's Eve and that was an hour and 15 minutes away (AND I offered to do all the driving). Lucky you! I wish I could be there to meet him, but it's not looking too good.
---
Thomas, sorry about your car. You seem to have bad luck with that kind of thing. I wonder why? Maybe Master Dickhead will cave and you'll get your wish. Be patient my friend (I know after all that description its gotta be hard, hehe.)
---
Rachelowe- (you people should pick that up! see I dropped the space and one of the Ls and I merged her name into what it REALLY should be. Wait till she gets married. She'll be Rachelowe Smith, or whatever.) Way to go on the hard work. I don't wanna hear any bitchin on your xanga (although trust me if you write it I will read it regardless.)
---
Diane- We don't mind if your life is boring to you, your life is in Texas, which means none of us know squat about it. So I think I speak for the others when I say I'd like to. So write anytime about anything. I'm glad things are good with the boy.
---
I just got done writing 2 stories today, and it felt really good in the last hour to read a funny e-mail from April and to read all of your posts. You guys make me smile :) Hope one day I can return the favor.
Luv always,
("until winter comes in summer, and there's no more forever"- doin it out old Thomas/NSYNC style),

Hey y'all. Sorry I'm not writing so much but I don't have a lot of exciting things to say. My days pretty much consists of working at Aero/massaging and spending time with Mike/watching him play soccer. Nothing really exciting to write about. xoxo
