So, as far as the paper goes, I guess you could say I'm doing well. But sometimes it is a slow day. I miss the DEN. When I'm there I can be there when I need to be, or be a jackass and play hacky sack as much as I want to and no one will say a word. Here I'm a little afraid I'm not going to make well with the professional community, so even when I'm waiting for phone calls and I know it's okay, I feel bad being on the Internet. Not bad enough that I'm going to stop though.
You can read my stories now at www.qconline.com
Not bad for gathering clips. Monday they have me going to cover a Relay for Life fundraiser in Orion, 30 minutes away. It should be fun. I love fundraisers and I love Relay for Life!!
One thing I will say is weekends I'm off for the most part, and at night I can go home and do my own thing, whereas at the DEN I sometimes never left until 10-ish. Then again that was usually my choice. My record was 2:30 a.m. but I was hanging out with friends (Joaquin and Haas). Another thing, I was an editor there. And there's only so much you can do to stop reporters stories from sucking. Which makes me feel bad for my editor, if I don't come up with the correct caliber story he was looking for. It's really hit or miss with me sometimes. You can still check out some columns and stories of mine at
www.thedailyeasternnews.com
I suggest you go there, go to "About Us" on the side, and click on my name. Look for the column "The day the agreement died." It's a column I wrote about my teacher that killed himself. He was awesome. It was actually my creative writing teacher, and the essay mentioned is the one about the guy I'm going to send you, Thomas. I got a $500 scholarship for next year and when the photo adviser presented my award, he told the whole banquet that column made him cry. Wow, huh? Then after the banquet we all proceeded to get drunk. Advisers and all.
I got a house for next year! So no matter how busy your ass may be I can almost promise I'll be busier, and that you need to come and visit me at Eastern. Time is running out! It's so cute, it's white and small and I'm sharing it with 2 other newsies. One girl, who is really not a lot like me, and one guy, who is really not a lot like anyone. They're nice though, it should be interesting and fun.
