EIU Homecoming 2005

Here's an update on one of the busiest weeks I've had this year.

EIU HOMECOMING 2005- "Oh, The Places You'll Go at EIU"
Our Homecoming partners: Sigma Pi
Our theme: Las Vegas

Festivities
Pomping- For weeks, Sig Pi and ASA gathered in "The Hut" off of Harrison in town to pomp a Las Vegas-themed float for the parade. We got to know some of the guys, especially the pledges. Thursday, deadline time, I stayed till 2:30 a.m. I'm pretty sure the guys never left.

Yell Like Hell- Delta Sigma Phi should have won this cheerleading contest- which Eric Coalson participated in. We won "Who Wants To Be a Mascot?" during intermission-Sig Pi Jacques was pretty much the cutest little thing in his Thomas Late Night Pizza costume- and won the hearts of everyone there. He did the Napoleon dance, acappella.

Beer Breakfast- I learned that I'm not ready to drink beer at 7:30 a.m. My first beer today was like my Everest. About 1.25 hours to the bottom, but I finished it. Some of the girls were being shitty because of some shit that went down. Apparently they only did Homecoming with us to make us look good- which is actually sad but also very true, therefore we shouldn't be mad even if they DID say that. It was pretty much like an 8th grade dance, boys on one side, girls on the other. The pledges had to prepare the float, so we didn't really know anyone. I have nothing against the Sig Pi guys; I had fun. I just wish everyone else would have and I wouldn't have worried about it.

Parade- Instead of watching the 9:30 a.m. parade from the Sig Pi house, we watched without the guys (which is annoying) from one of my sisters' places on 7th. Me, the new girls, and a couple others sat on the curb and snatched as much candy as humanly possible. When the float came by I took like 8 pics. Too bad I couldn't get the other side... I was so proud. That feeling proved pomping defnitely paid off. I found the DEN ppl shortly after the parade was over and headed back.

Drinking with the DEN- After a beer run (yes, I drank 16 oz. Coors Light in a camouflage can) we headed to Megan's (campus editor) and chilled for a bit, around noon. We were going to help Renick (sports editor) hand out the gameday section at the game, but our services weren't needed after all.

QQ Buffet- It was time to get some food in us, so we went to the QQ Buffet and made ourselves half sick with tons of delicious, greasy Chinese food. This place is way better than China Buffet- come and see for yourselves.

-nap- Didn't mean for this to happen. "I'm going to lay down for a bit before I go to the game" lasted till 4:30 or so, which was sad because I wanted to at least catch half time and check out who won the float and overall Homecoming this year. Sig Nu and AST won 1st place in both I think. Our float came in second- which would have been obvious since there was only one decent contender (the winners, obviously)... Personally, ours was way better. But theirs was good, and bigger. So that's what happens I guess. Ours was still orgasmic, getting us 3rd place overall!

Journalism Chili Bash- Around 5:30 p.m., we headed to Friends and Co. (a bar) for the annual Journalism Chili Bash for free food and beer on JR (AKA to people who don't know any better "Professor Ryan") and the alumni. It was a good time had by all, as it always is- and I saw Amy and Kurt from the Argus (Amy went here and Kurt's gf did too), and we got a picture... we even let Aaron (opinoons editor, interned in Rock Island with me) in it. Haha. Tons of pictures were taken, including another sweet one of me, Megan and JR, as the tradition continues... I love drunk professors.

Movie Night- After the chili bash, I picked up the Amityville Horror from Family Video and watched it over in McKinney Hall with Danielle from my floor last year. She's an RA and underage so she can't drink, plus she was on duty. It scared the shit out of us (which is not surprising to me because I had seen it before) and then we watched Anchorman and I fell asleep. I got home around 2:30 a.m., took a shower, did some laundry, and it's currently 4:25 a.m. and soon I will go to sleep.

Great week. I know SIUE's is next week- I hope you have as much fun as I did Em...
